Jenny + David | A Romantic and Whimsical Wedding at Greystone Mansion & Gardens, Beverly Hills, CA

I am so excited to share this wedding with you all today!! Jenny and David’s wedding was the perfect balance of elegance, whimsy and fun! I enjoyed how they infused who they are into every aspect of their wedding. Their intimate tea ceremony was followed by their first look at Greystone Manstion & Gardens – they shared several intimate moments before exchanging their vows in Greystone’s romantic garden setting. Did I mention the orchestra? These two (and everyone in attendance) were serenaded throughout the ceremony, it was truly a unique and memorable experience!  The surprises continued into cocktail hour and reception, every guest smiled with joy, tiki-themed cocktails in hand and eyes set on the beautiful couple!

Congrats Jenny and David, your wedding day was truly amazing, sweet and loving… just like YOU!

We knew right away that we wanted a somewhat non-traditional wedding. Coming from different cultures, we wanted every element of our day to be representative of the two of us and not follow a fixed formula of what is supposed to happen. We are both musicians, so we wanted a level of magic with the music and a dreamy, elegant aesthetic, but we are also fun-loving, so it was important that there was a lot of fun and whimsy to our day that would make it truly memorable and unique for our friends and family.

Share how (or why) you chose your wedding venue.

Greystone Mansion and Gardens was perfect for us. Growing up in the metropolitan city of Hong Kong, most weddings are often indoors in banquet rooms, so I knew right away I wanted an outdoor wedding. I have always craved being in a nature. A huge sky, trees and lots of sunlight are things that I never take for granted. I looked at venues that were in forests, in the mountains, etc., but my husband and I are also both fascinated with traveling, culture and history. We had originally wanted a destination wedding in a Tuscan villa in Italy, but decided to switch our plans to make our wedding easier for our families and friends to attend. When we came across Greystone, it was almost too good to be true – it had that quintessential European, English Tudor style stone mansion aesthetic, while having a beautiful, open outdoor garden surrounded by flowers and trees. Not to mention it was smack in the middle of LA where we live. We could not have found a better venue.

What was your favorite part of the planning process?

Probably trying on wedding dresses was the most fun. I wish I could keep trying them on! But honestly, all of it. It gets stressful and nerve-racking, but you will rarely ever experience (and in my case, lead) a preparation and execution process that is more personal and rewarding.

Looking back at your wedding day, what did you love the most?

Really, every bit of it. For me, my favorite was being absolutely surprised by my husband reading his vows to me for the first time at the ceremony, in a way that was so genuine and beautifully eloquent – he later said “it was easy because it is all true”. I also especially loved when my close friends who are all professional musicians, sang and played, with my role model conducting them as I walked down the aisle towards my husband. My husband’s favorite was probably the tiki drinks, and the moment right before the last dance song of the night, he ran up to our DJ and asked if he could play “Linger” by The Cranberries’, and all our friends spontaneously started waving their arms side by side in the air and then carrying us up on their shoulders.

What is your most valuable piece of advice you can share with future couples?

Love each other during the process. Your engagement and wedding preparation is not separate from your ongoing relationship. It is a huge opportunity for you two to love each other and communicate what you both want, even when you might run into some challenges. Also, no matter how many times people tell you this, EAT at your wedding and designate people around you to herd you back to your table to grab bites between talking to people. Have a hierarchy of what things you cannot give up at your wedding. And the question to “Is it worth spending so much on one day?” is fully, Yes (responsibly, of course), it will be the most magical day of your lives. It was for us.
