Daniel + Vanessa | Our Fairytale Anniversary Session | Palos Verdes, CA

“Let’s plan an anniversary session!” I’d say almost EVERY year after our wedding. I thought for sure we’d make it happen for our five year anniversary, “it’s a milestone,” I thought to myself. I made it as far as ordering a sage dress from BHLDN and purchasing silver flats from Nordstrom’s…. and then the five year came and went and though I know I seriously intended to schedule something for my husband and I, it just didn’t happen. Life gets busy, and some personal projects get placed on the back burner.

So, as I found nuggets of time during 2019, I planned. I made a promise to myself that we would make it happen, no matter how hectic the season got  – I would no longer postpone our special shoot (and I had my wedding bestie/second shooter Claudia, to keep me accountable!).

I am so happy I kept my promise; as it turned out – the season DID get hectic and we scheduled this shoot too close to Christmas and too close to our winter vacation so we were stressing! BUT I’m thankful to have this chapter in our lives documented. We giggled, we snuggled, we rested our souls in each other’s arms and it was every bit as magical as I had hoped!

Check out our session below, inspired by a fairytale garden with blue, sage and peach tones…

I included my two favorite scents by Guerlain in our anniversary session. Daniel travels for work often and somehow finds it in his schedule to shop for me! These scents were a gift from his first business trip to Orlando, Florida. These scents are lovely on their own, but together, they are a romantic blend – chocolate and citrus perfection.

Daniel and I met as teenagers, we were next door neighbors! I wanted to incorporate something from our past and something current with paper goods; Lisa from Ellette Studio created two very special pieces for us. The first is the lyrics to “Love Song” handwritten in calligraphy with blue ink. The version by the band 311 often played on the radio early in our relationship and was our favorite to listen to as we explored the Pacific Coast Highway together. These lyrics – this song – will always be special and now I have this beautiful art piece framed and hanging in our bedroom!

The petite cake below from Maple Road was perfection! I knew I wanted to incorporate something sweet, and I’ve been following Crissy’s page for so long and have loved each one of her creations. She is so creative with cake design! I also know Crissy from college so having this baked good from her was a treat. 🙂 The colors worked perfectly with our style and the detail was a garden lovers dream!

And – the second paper art to capture something sweet from this chapter in our lives is a quote from the very romantic movie Stardust, that we watched for the first time not too long ago. Daniel loves reading stories by Neil Gaiman and I loved this movie! After watching, we concluded that Daniel is in fact – my star.

“What do stars do? They shine”

Neil Gaiman, Stardust

I am obsessed with all things florals!! (If you don’t know, now you know!) & I am head over heels for the design work provided by my dear friend Laura from InStyle Blooms! The whimsy hair piece, textured bouquet and layers of soft petals were a dream… I felt like a fairy!

We are sincerely thankful for this anniversary session!! These images were possible because of the love and time provided by Tiffani at Sun & Sparrow. Tiffani was our engagement and wedding photographer so having her capture these moments for us was so special… thank you Tiffani!! I know we will cherish these moments for years to come!
